Kerry Film Festival seeks movie entries
ALL film makers have been called on to submit entries for the 11th annual Kerry Film Festival.
The 2010 festival will run from October 30 to November 6 and the main focus of the film is on short productions.
"The Kerry Film Festival is committed to playing a leading role in providing a forum for emerging talent in film," said festival director Jason O’Mahony.
"This dedication is evidenced by both the quality of the films screened and the quality of adjudicators that select the winning films.
"Awards are given in a number of categories including best short film, best Irish short, best international short, best director, best documentary short and best animated short," he said.
All prizes will be selected by a jury of internationally renowned figures in the film industry that have included the likes of Jerermy Irons, Gabriel Byrne, Neil Jordan, Jim Sheridan, Liam Neeson and Killarney’s Michael Fassbender.
The Kerry Film Festival is unique in that there are so many film makers on hand to speak about their films and the intimacy of the event is another rare attribute for a film festival.
There is also the Maureen O’Hara Award for women that have excelled in film. It is called after the legendary screen actress who appeared in Ryan’s Daughter which was shot in Dingle. Brenda Fricker received the award in 2008 and Rebecca Miller in 2009.
The festival’s aim is to recognise that film is an important art medium and provides a diverse range of quality film.
The festival has screenings in Killarney, Tralee, Dingle, Valencia and Cahirciveen.
