Mick makes a date with Dingle audience
SINGER and songwriter Mick Flannery will delight fans in Kerry this week when he stops off for one night only at The Hillgrove in Dingle.
The folk rock aficionado will play the west Kerry venue this Friday night with his full band, including Karen O’Doherty on violin and vocals, Yvonne Daly on vocals, Hugh Dillon on guitar, Brian Hassett on bass and Christian Best on drums.
An experienced performer with strong Kerry links, Flannery has toured extensively in Ireland and the US, and made a name for himself across the Atlantic when he entered the prestigious US international songwriting competition in Nashville, Tennessee.
He became the first Irish musician to win two top awards for his compositions, judged by legends like Tom Waits, Loretta Lynn, Sonny Rollins, John Scofield, Macy Gray among others.
The talented singer/songwriter is playing only a few exclusive dates this year because he is working on new material for a new album with no release date as yet, so his Kerry gig is even more of a treat.
Flannery recently came first in the Hot Press readers’ poll beating Damien Dempsey and Bono and The Edge in the Irish songwriter category and first in the Irish folk and traditional music poll beating Kila and Christy Moore.
Catch him live at The Hillgrove in Dingle this Friday, July 23. There will also be an exhibition of sculptures as part of the event.
