Sulky goes to Camp

DESPITE fears that the constant threat of rain might prove to be a spoilsport, the elements remained favourable long enough to allow the organisers of the annual harness and sulky meeting in Camp to proceed with their big day as planned – and what a super occasion it transpired to be.

Last year the fun-filled event was off the agenda because of constant downpours but, to the relief of all involved, the 2010 feast of racing was able to continue.

There was great excitement and some spectacular sights as the colourful traps zipped around the course and those that gathered at the venue to witness the activities were certainly glad they did.

The harness specialists proved a dab hand at keeping the sulky traps and horses under close control and, despite a tricky course, they proved to be masters of the occasion and they were thrilled with the ovation they received.

It was a real fun day out for all the family and many experienced observers reckoned the age-old skill of harness racing is still as strong as ever in Kerry.
