Trócaire thanks
TRÓCAIRE thanks the people of Kerry for responding so generously to our appeal to help Haiti, six months after a massive earthquake destroyed the Caribbean country.
The people of Kerry donated ¤55,994 to Trócaire's appeal for Haiti through church collections and direct donations.
80,000 distraught people have received food, water and medical care from the organisation.
Kerry people have made a huge contribution to our emergency aid work in Haiti. Their kindness and quick response meant we could immediately supply tents, food, hygiene kits and urgent medical care to shocked, grieving and injured people. This undoubtedly saved lives.
Since January Trócaire, as part of Caritas International, the second biggest aid network in the world and part of the Catholic Church, has provided shelter kits and tents to 900,000 people, health care in the form of kits, health posts, and primary care at hospitals to 1,160,000 people and regular food supplies and hot meals to 1,551,599 people.
We have also supplied clean water or hygiene kits to 200,000 people.
