Killarney gets set for Irish Open golf fever

STORE owners in Killarney have been afforded a great opportunity to get up close and personal with any one of their favourite golfers participating in the forthcoming 3 Irish Open at Killarney Golf and Fishing Club.

This prize has been offered to the Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce by the European Tour and it allows the winner and a person of their choice to get inside the security ropes on the day of the Pro Am for the 3 Irish Open.

They will not be allowed to play or caddy at the ProAm but the winners will be allowed to follow the round of their favourite golfer taking part. The prize will be subject to certain terms and conditions which will be explained on the day.

To win, shop owners must dress their shop windows to promote the Irish Open and holidaying in Kerry. Window packs have been made available at the Discover Ireland Centre on Beech Road which will help shop owners to decorate their windows.

The packs include Killarney SummerFest posters, Killarney maps, Discover Kerry brochures, freestanding cards and a special offers brochure for golf in Kerry.

The best dressed windows competition will be judged on Wednesday, July 28, by officials of Fáilte Ireland, 3, the European Tour and the local organising committee on Wednesday, July 28.

For further information contact Rene Dooley or Karina Mulchinock at the Fáilte Ireland Office in Killarney (064-66316330.

Meanwhile, Killarney’s Europe Hotel and Resort and Hotel Dunloe Castle are preparing to welcome over 70 of the world’s top golfers for the Open.

The hotels will play host to some of the biggest names in the golfing world and excitement is this week reaching fever pitch.

"All the staff in both hotels are looking forward to playing host to the European Tour. We feel that any mental stress will certainly be eased when they are looking out on Lough Lein or the Gap of Dunloe," said marketing director, Gerry Browne, who added that the spa facilities at the hotel will be popular with golfers.

"We have already received a number of bookings for this treatments over the weekend of the 3 Open. We can’t promise to improve a swing but we certainly can help with muscle stress," he said.
