Slow progress

AT a recent meeting of Kerry County Council in the Killarney Electoral Area I asked if there had been any progress with the Department of the Environment in relation to the extension of the public sewer to Lissivigeen, Aghadoe and Tralee Road.

Kerry County Council replied that the extension of the public sewer to the areas mentioned is to be considered in the context of the Killarney main drainage scheme. This scheme was included in the assessment of needs submitted to the Department of the Environment last year for inclusion in the water services investment programme.

Unfortunately, this scheme has not been included in the water programme 2010-2012 announced recently by the department and consequently no advancement of the scheme will take place at the present time.

The well-being of Killarney’s lakes depends to a considerable degree on the extension of the public sewer.

The ongoing delay in processing of these schemes places a degree of risk to the economy of Killarney.
